Gustave Singier (1909-1984) was born in Belgium. He moved to Paris in 1919 and spent most of his artistic career there and became a leading member of the Ecole de Paris group. He was an abstract painter and print-maker in France and part of the new Paris School of Lyrical Abstraction and the Salon de Mai. and also designed tapestries and stage sets. He was the founder of the Salon de Mai in 1949.
From 1967 to 1978 he was the head professor at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris.
